Work out safely and develop a healthy back!
Most people suffer from back pain, especially low-back pain, at one point or other in their life.
There are various causes for low-back pain. These can range from an acute injury due to lifting something badly, to intervertebral disc damage, to postural problems or excessive sitting. Low-back pain can originate from disc, vertebra, muscle or soft tissue damage or irritation.
Following referral from your doctor or physiotherapist, we can apply an appropriate programme for you based on the diagnosis provided.
Our methodological approach is based on the research by acclaimed spine biomechanist, Dr. Stuart McGill, using the approach of ‘spinal stiffening’ to support the alignment of the spine and minimise pain triggers caused by excessive movement and flexion in the low-back region. Aligning the spine helps to distribute loads evenly across the spine. By limiting movement in the lower-back, you minimise impingement and irritation that may trigger pain.
Also, if you’re still recovering from back pain, it doesn’t mean that you can’t exercise regularly. There are many ways to work around injuries, and this applies to clients with back pain too. By shifting direction of load, using supports and modifying exercises, we can provide you with a whole body workout that will get you stronger and fitter while your back is being rehabilitated.
